Risks you might Encounter while Sharing the Online files Via P2P

If you want to share your files via P2P, you must understand the inherent P2P File Sharing risks and most importantly how to overcome the situation. Let’s understand each of the risks in depth.

1. Security Risks

Some of the file-sharing programs allow malware to enter your device. This malware allows scammers to control your device. Hence, before you share your files, you must consider the following aspects:

  • The first thing that you must do is to install a trustworthy security program that includes anti-spyware protection and anti-spyware

  • Remove the files that you believe contain malware

  • Set your device drivers and Operating System to upgrade automatically

  • Always keep a backup. Store these files on external drivers, CDs, DVDs, and other online services.

Apart from this, before downloading or running any files, make sure that your security software scans the file. Besides, in case, the P2P file asks you to change the firewall settings, you are advised to reinstall the P2P program.

2. Know what files you are sharing

This is one of the crucial aspects that you must consider while sharing the file through the P2P program. Carefully, install the P2P program and get a clear idea about the folder that you are sharing.

Remember that, careless settings of the P2P program might expose your hard drive information. Such as email messages, images, videos, medical records, or any other personal documents. Hence, it’s highly recommended not to store any personal information within the Shared or Download folders.

Apart from this, some P2P folders are designed to get access to the folder where you have stored your personal information. As a result, hackers can easily get access to your personal information.

3. Connection Issue

In many cases, if you click on the ‘X icon, this doesn’t mean you have successfully closed your connection to the network. Therefore, other users are still able to get access to your shared files. It might slow down your device as well as increase the security risks. Hence, you are advised to double-click on the file that you are sharing. After that, tap on the file menu and thereafter click on the exit button.

Apart from this, whenever you turn on your computer, some Peer-to-Peer Program might open automatically. In such cases, you might have to change the settings.

4. User Account Problem

This is another common issue that might occur when you are trying to share a file online through P2P. In case, more than one person uses your computer, you are suggested to create a separate account for yourself. Remember that, only a person with the administrator can install the right software. Otherwise, anyone can install software that you don’t want to install.

Besides, if you create a separate account for yourself, then this will restrict other users to use your personal information. Also, you must enter a password to protect your administrator account from hackers.

Conclusion…

No doubt P2P is an amazing file-sharing option. However, you might experience certain problems while sharing a file. Fortunately, if you thoroughly follow this guide, then you will understand the common risks and how to minimize them.
